I need a vacation after this weekend. I feel like I wasn’t able to stop and breathe until Sunday after the shower was over. It was jam-packed. So here is a recap of our weekend (with pictures at the end).
The weekend started with the Knock Out for Cancer 5k. This was my first ever race and I wasn’t really expecting much of myself. I was running with the lovely Mrs. Neidhardt and Miss McCray. They were the most amazing running buddies I could have asked for during my first race. I didn’t know what to expect with a 5k and I really wasn’t planning on being able to run the whole thing. But then you have all these racers with you and 2 fabulous motivators. It was such fun and I made it almost the whole way without stopping. I had to stop only 2 times for very short amounts of time. (The next 5k I run in 2 weeks was were I set the goal to run the whole thing). I am pretty sure I slowed these ladies down, but for me, it was about finishing. We crossed the finish line in 40min. To me, that was an amazing time. I know its not the best out there, but I was so proud of myself for doing that well. I checked the results of our run last night and my placing was like 352 or something like that. HAHA! Oh well. But in all honesty, I had such a great time running with these ladies.
When I got back from the run, the complex was having Beautification Day. This is the first one I have participated in since I bought my place (our complex is also very small…20 units), so I didn’t know what was in store. Basically this meant that we planted many flowers and hostas around the complex and mulched. If you have never done either of these things, they are back breaking work. And for a complex as small as ours, it needs a lot of mulch. So, that combined with just have run a 5k, I feel like I am dying. I am so incredibly sore. I try to stretch as much as I can, but ooh I am tight. Anyways, Beautification Day took about 3 hours or so to complete. And I should note that we had a great turn out. I think everyone that owns a place in our complex came out. (We do have some renters as well).
After that, my sister and I and her Jeremy went to Felini’s for some lunch. YUM. I haven’t been there in a while and their pizza is pretty amazing. Then the ladies went to the DeKalb Farmers Market (per our usual weekend) and got our groceries for the week. I was pretty out of it by this point. I don’t know if it was the 6am wake up or all the exercising/exertion, but I was becoming comatose. When we got back, my mom came over and we started getting things set up for the shower. I am so glad we did this the day before. If we didn’t, I don’t know if it would have looked the same. We stayed up really late, but I think it was worth it.
Sunday was the shower. My mom showed up late (but that was ok since she stayed to set up the night before late) and there was the issue with picking up the biscuits. I must say though, that these biscuits are worth it. My sister and I go to the DeKalb Farmers Market every week. And since she’s preggers right now we have to eat before we get there. I, of course, don’t mind. One of the first places we went to was Pastries A Go Go in Decatur. This is where they have these amazing biscuits. They are huge and just delicious. So, I knew for her shower that we needed these amazing biscuits. The big problem was that we went to the market late on Saturday and Pastries A Go Go was closed. So, I had to get my Jeremy (so amazing) to pick them up for me before he went to the Braves game. And he did. He is amazing!
Anyways, without further ado, here are some pictures of the shower (there are a bunch):
The food table
So much loot!
Some of the decorations. The theme was giraffe/zoo animals. We got all the decorations from Party City.
The table set inside. We also had one outside on the deck.
This was in the downstairs bedroom. It was our activity area. We created onesies and decorated them.
An “H” that I bought from Hobby Lobby and spray painted. My mom got a Cricut machine for Christmas this past year and she made all the cutouts.
Octotunes toy! So much fun.
Melissa opening some gifts. She got some cute stuff.
Allison, a hostess, who gave birth 3 months ago. She looks so great.
All of the guests at the shower. It is missing Joanna, but I can’t figure out how to add her. I don’t have Photoshop.
