During my wedding planning process, I decided fairly early on that I wanted to do my own makeup. I actually had a bridesmaid who did other brides makeup in the past do mine.
I know that some people frown upon this, and I do understand that. But I also had reasons that I wanted to do my own.
- I got married in the mountains. Seeing that my hair did not turn out the way I wanted (yes, I had a trial), I can only image how my makeup would have turned out.
- I didn’t want to look like a clown with too much makeup on. I wanted to still be myself.
- I wanted control over what I was putting on my face.
- I wanted to test everything on my face before my wedding day. My skin does not cooperate very well, so I decided to test everything I could before to make sure I wouldn’t break out.
So, how do you go about getting makeup for your wedding day, if you do it yourself?
My first stop was to go to Sephora. I got paired with a great makeup artist/consultant girl and she hooked me up. She tried the Color IQ, but realized that it wasn’t close to my color and found my current foundation that worked great.
I ended up buying almost everything at Sephora. There was makeup I already had and used regularly, so I didn’t need to buy more. Obviously, you don’t have to do this and you can find cheaper options out there. Trust me, I’m aware of that. But I did want to just get everything at that time and not go hunting for it all.
I got foundation, concealer, primer, powder to set everything. I also got some new eyeliner and lip sticks while I was there. Being able to try everything on my face before I used it was key to me deciding to do my own makeup. I didn’t want to breakout after my wedding from something that was put on my face that day. And I didn’t break out.
Would you do your own wedding makeup?
