Every engagement ring has a story, right? Your proposal is so special to you and a day that you cherish. So, why not share the story for your engagement ring?
My engagement ring isn’t anything special. It’s not the biggest. It’s not the brightest. It’s not the most expensive. And it will be upgraded eventually. But despite all of these things, I love my ring. It’s not a lot of things, but it is mine and it was chosen by Jeremy – which makes it mean the world to me.
So, here is the story. Jeremy and I went ring looking – not shopping – in February 2012. Yes, that says 2012. That isn’t a miss print. We went to Kay Jewelers and looked around. I tried on different rings and helped Jeremy sort of know what style I liked the best.
Jeremy must have remembered all that he learned that day because he went shopping some 6 months later to pick out my ring. He chose something that he could afford at the time. He chose something that reminded him of me and he chose it all by himself. He chose something that wasn’t exactly the same as what we had looked at, but was similar. And he chose a ring with a plan to get it upgraded later on.
A note about the upgrade: I have heard that people are VERY against upgrading your engagement ring. And most likely, I agree with them. But, if we upgrade my ring there will be certain stipulations. You see, Jeremy picked my current engagement ring with an upgrade in mind. He wanted something that I could get the center diamond upgraded but the setting would remain the same.
How is that possible? My engagement ring has 4 small square diamonds where a larger diamond could eventually go. So, if I upgrade my ring, I can keep the setting and replace the 4 small diamonds with a larger one…and keep the 4 small ones and create something pretty with them – like a necklace perhaps?
The only reason I might change the setting of my engagement ring is if I inherit one of my mom’s diamonds. She has one that I could use as the center diamond of my engagement ring. Her diamond is round, so I would need to change the setting of my ring. But wouldn’t that be awesome to wear a diamond that was your moms? Yea, I think so!
I love my ring and I love that Jeremy picked it out all by himself. I love that he thought about an upgrade and got prices on diamonds for when it’s time to do that. I love that he didn’t spend a ton of money on it to be in a huge amount of debt. Mostly, I love it because it was bought by the love of my life to ask me to be his wife. And obviously, I said yes!
