I am a shopper. I love to shop. And I love buying presents for other people. So, naturally, you would think I would love Black Friday.
Maybe it’s the crazy crowds. Maybe it’s that the deals are on electronics and I don’t want to buy electronics. Maybe it’s that the last 2 years I have been shopping on Black Friday and never really gotten a great deal.
It’s fun to be out in the madness with everyone and their mother, but what’s the point if you don’t really get what you want? For the past 2 years I have shopped on Black Friday. I have braved the crowds and gone out with the crazy people to try to get a great deal. And here is what I have learned. Most of the good deals on Black Friday are for electronics. It’s great – GREAT – if you are shopping for electronics. But I’m not. We don’t need any of them. By the way, if you are wanting a DSLR, the past 2 years Target has had one on sale (usually a Canon) for under $500 packaged with a bunch of other stuff like case or bag.
This year, though? I am boycotting Black Friday.
Maybe the luster of it has worn off. But I am just not excited about Black Friday sales. There hasn’t been anything I have seen that I can’t order online and get shipped to me. We already have stuff being shipped to our house as we speak. I will get out and about and do some Christmas shopping – I love getting in the Christmas spirit – but it won’t be on Black Friday.
I will not be walking into a toy store like 2 years ago. For someone who doesn’t frequent toy stores often (and I’m looking at you Toys R Us), I was immediately overwhelmed. I couldn’t find what I wanted and I had to go through every aisle just to see what all there way. The crowds were insane and it’s just not something I want to attempt again. Maybe whenever we have kids, but not now. No thank you. The line to check out was wrapped around the aisles (all managed by employees, thank goodness). But still. It really wasn’t worth it for me. The deals just weren’t that great.
I think that Black Friday can be great for deals, but you have to be looking for something specific like cough electronics cough. Have I emphasized that enough? Even as much as I buy clothes, the clothes deals just aren’t that great on Black Friday. So, this year we will be heading to Home Depot – probably with everyone else – and buying our first real Christmas tree. Yes, you saw that right. In our 4 years together we have NEVER had a real Christmas tree…and that ends this year. I will also be decorating our house for Christmas on Friday. I don’t believe in decorating before Thanksgiving. #sorrynotsorry
