I was lying in bed last night casually looking at Twitter on my phone before I turn out my light and it starts to blow up. I couldn’t believe what I was reading.
Google is retiring Google Reader. With that, it will eventually get rid of Google Friend Connect, since they are one in the same.
I haven’t used Google Reader itself in a long time. I was using NewsBlur for a while and recently switched to Bloglovin to keep up with all the blogs I read. I prefer Bloglovin because you get to categorize your blogs. It’s much easier to keep track of everything.
But here is my question. I downloaded the file from Google Reader into Bloglovin (it’s really easy…they tell you how to do it). So, in essence I still use GR’s feeds in Bloglovin. What is going to happen when GR goes away in July? Will I lose all of my blogs? Will they still update?
I tried today to go through some and follow them on Bloglovin, but BL says that I already follow them. So what happens next? I hope Google comes out with a FAQ or a Q&A about retiring Google Reader. I honestly could care less that they are getting rid of it, but if it means that I will lose my blogs on Bloglovin or make me follow them all again after it is retired, that is just crazy.
Does anyone know the answers to these questions?
I am going to say probably not…but it’s worth a shot!
