One night, I was on my Nook Color, searching for a book to read. I had heard people talk about this one as one to read, so I thought, why not? I mean, it was only $2.99, so I really didn’t have much to lose.
To my surprise, I really enjoyed this book. The characters were interesting and the plot kept on getting more and more intense. I didn’t know how good it was going to be because I just had no expectations. I feel like I say that every time I review a book. I swear, not every book has no expectations, but I do feel like the book is better when I don’t have expectations.
So, this book begins with Kate, a single mom working the lawyer lifestyle to send her teenage daughter to private school. They live in New York and are the best of friends (for single moms and teenage daughters). Amelia is an overachieving student, always on time and always does her best work.
So, when her mom gets a call from the school saying that her daughter cheated, she is floored. How could this happen? What did happen that led to her cheating in her favorite subject? As she gets to school, she finds out what every parent dreads – her daughter is dead. Of an apparent suicide. It’s like she got so depressed that she cheated on a paper, that she decides to jump off the roof of the school. Or so the school says.
Kate knows that something isn’t right. She is determined to put the her daughter’s last days back together to figure out what really happened. And you would be shocked to find out what did end up happening up there on the roof.
Did she jump? Did someone push her? Or did she slip and fall?
You will have to read the book to find out.
I would rate this book 4.5/5 stars.
