Even though we wanted a nontraditional ceremony, there was something so awesome about the tradition of a first dance. I know that some brides and grooms choose not to have a first dance, but it was always pretty high on our list of things we HAD to do. I even let Jeremy pick the song we were going to dance to and he surprised me with it on our wedding day.
After we high fived most of our guests, we went straight into our first dance. Our DJ, who did a wonderful job, had everyone gather close to us for our entrance into the reception. After we got there, they were all still gathered really close to us so it felt much more intimate. It was really awesome to dance with Jeremy but also to have our guests close to us as well.
Jeremy chose Fools Rush In to dance to. I will talk more about that in my music post, which is coming up in a few weeks.
Other traditional things that we knew we had to do were the cake cutting and the father/daughter and mother/son dances. These dances were wonderful and I think our photographers caught the moment perfectly.
Now, remember that we are about 30 minutes behind from our schedule because of the weather. It got dark a lot faster than we thought it would, but it didn’t matter. I do think that the flash from the photographers lenses makes it seem darker than it really was, but that’s perfectly fine with me. We didn’t start the other dances until after dinner and after the toasts…hence the darkness.
I actually liked that not that many people were paying attention to my dad and I dancing. I really don’t like attention on me and I know that Jeremy isn’t a fan of it either. It was a special moment for both my dad and me, though. We definitely enjoyed the moment.
These pictures of Jeremy and his mom are just precious, right?
Next week we talk about our reception! And the dancing! I’m already excited about it.
