11 years ago today, our nation changed. Our faith in others changed and our patriotism changed.
11 years ago the twin towers in NY were struck by terrorists.
Where were you 11 years ago?
I remember vividly where I was. I was in my senior year of high school and I was in my first period Sociology class. We were getting ready to present something to the class. I think mine was about depression or hurting yourself or something like that.
I remember a classmate came in who worked in the front office for this period. He asked if we had seen what happened. Obviously we didn’t know what was going on. So my teacher (I wish I remembered who it was) turned on the TV and we watched as the 1st plane hit the tower. They were replaying what had happened moments before. We were all glued to the TVs. How could you not be? Then we watched as the 2nd plane came and hit the other tower. I remember thinking, “That plane is low. Too low.” But I also remember thinking maybe it’s a news chopper (I was 17 people).
After the 2nd plane hit, we had to change classes. People were crying. We were all hurrying to our next class so we could watch what happened next. It felt like the world was ending. Again, I was 17. Nothing like this had ever happened before to our country…to innocent civilians.
At my 2nd period we watched as people jumped out of the towers. I think this was the worst thing to have seen. Then we saw the towers fall. Both of them just fell like they were made from toy blocks. As we tried to have class, we saw that the Pentagon was hit and then the passengers of Flight 93 overtook their terrorists and downed the plane.
I remember it all so vividly and sometimes I wish I could forget it happened. But we can’t. September 11 will forever be a part of our history and we will never forget what happened that day and all the lives that were lost that day. It was tragic.
On a side note, I really want to go to NY and see the memorial. I think it looks amazing in pictures and can only be more amazing in person.
